Is it Illegal for kids to have Guns?

A common thought is that it is illegal for kids to have guns. But is it true? Jurisdictions and circumstances would dictate the legality of a child being in possession of a firearm, but in Illinois in general it is not illegal for kids to have guns.

One considering giving access of a firearm to a minor must be aware of the laws governing when this may be legal. When in doubt, legal advice should be sought from an attorney. This article is not legal advise, nor is the author an attorney.  However the information found within this writing has been gathered from various Illinois laws which govern firearm possession (linked below).

Many gun owners would tell you that you should teach a child young, to respect a firearm. After all we teach our children not to play with knives or lighters or stick things in electrical sockets. I will tell you that even if you are against the thought of owning a gun you should teach your child basic firearms safety rules.

Stop.

Don’t touch.

Congresswoman Jan Schakowsky calls for guncontrol in wake of Paris attacks

Congresswoman Jan Schakowsky of the 9th district of Illinois has repeatedly called for more gun control since the terrorist attacks stating “we should make, as a top priority, reducing the easy availability of the kinds of weapons that can and have been used in mass shootings.” on her own website press release dated November 16th.  Congresswoman Jan Schakowsky was also calling for more gun control on Sirius XM radio stating “I think it ought cause us to have another consideration of sensible gun safety laws.”

Because Ms. Schakowsky is my congresswoman I have communicated with her numerous times. I will say upfront that while most of my other politicians whom I write often as well, her replies seem to not be canned template responses. Her responses seem be be direct either by her or one of her staffers, even referencing previous emails in her correspondences.  Therefore I shall be writing another letter to Ms. Schakowsky, as follows:

Ms. Schakowsky ,

I write to you in response to your calling for sensible gun laws in the wake of the Paris terror attacks.  I have once heard of another Illinois politician stating “Never let a good tragedy go to waste.” and while I did not verify the authenticity of this quote, I did think you were above the practice.

As I have previously told you, I feel you are an intelligent person. Otherwise how could you have risen to the seat in which you find yourself today? However it frustrates me when I hear or read you calling for more gun control.  The exact words posted on your website in regards to the Paris tragedy state “If we are to address violence, terrorism and security at home, we must enact sensible gun safety laws.”

As a constituent of your district I request you to elaborate. What gun law, sensible or otherwise, would have prevented this tragedy? We don’t know the origin of the firearms used in the attacks, however we do know they did not come from France because France  has banned these types of firearms.  What sensible gun laws would you enact in the United States which would have prevented this mass attack by terrorists?

Let’s expand upon the proposals thrown about by anti gun (dare I say Anti Freedom?) politicians…

Universal Background checks…  Would a back ground check stop a prohibited person from obtaining a firearm? No, because it does not work now. Straw Purchasers buy and sell firearms and pass back ground checks.  Criminals steal firearms.  The study between Duke and the University of Chicago in conjunction with the Cook County Jail system concluded that criminals don’t obtain their firearms legally.

Would an all out 100% gun ban work?  Absolutely not, and France is proof. Their all out ban has failed their citizens.  Criminals will always have weapons of evil (including explosives, which terrorists actually utilize more than firearms.)

The Taliban was known for crafting AK 47’s on mountain sides with rocks and hammers.  Philippine gunsmiths make firearms in the jungles with hand tools such as files and hack saws from recycled metals. You can not un-invent technology which has been around for hundreds of years.  Finally guns can be smuggled across borders, as they were in France.

I please ask you to lay out what “sensible gun law” would have stopped the France terror attacks?

Your constituent,

Thomas C Kral

Coonan Introduces New 1911 .45 ACP Pistol

Coonan Introduces New 1911 .45 ACP Pistol

Blaine, MN – Coonan Inc., known for their unique 1911 chambered in .357 Magnum, introduces a new class of 1911 chambered in .45 ACP.

The Coonan 1911 .357 Magnum Auto raised the standards for 1911’s. The new.45 ACP Pistol raises the standards again by applying all of the “Coonan Difference” proven technologies from their 1911 .357 Magnum Auto to their new .45 ACP. These “Coonan Difference” features, linkless barrel, pivoting trigger, and external extractor, are incorporated into every Coonan pistol. The linkless barrel is more reliable than linked barrels and offers increased accuracy while virtually eliminating feeding issues. The pivoting trigger’s unique location and motion allows the user more consistent trigger pulls for better accuracy and tighter groups. Every trigger, hammer, sear, and disconnector are crafted at the Coonan facility in Minnesota to their exact specifications. Combined with the pivoting trigger, this firing mechanism configuration allows the shooter a more refined trigger pull and user experience. The final “Coonan Difference” feature is the external extractor, which is coil spring activated for increased reliability and robustness unlike internal extractors that use leaf springs that can flatten out over time. Recoil operation allows the use of both jacketed and non-jacked ammunition through the 4340 carbon steel hard chrome plate finished barrel.

This handgun ships standard with Novak style rear sights and blade front sights. Optional features include fixed night sights or an adjustable rear sights. This new handgun also incorporates an extended slide catch and thumb lock to simplify one-handed operation. The Coonan .45 ACP package includes a 7 round single-stack magazine, a carrying case and a lock for additional storage safety. Over 250 Disabled Vets and Families Attend HAVA’s 8th Annual Range Day

Hurricane’s Rain Doesn’t Stop HAVA’s 8th Annual Family Day

Over 250 Disabled Vets and Families Attend Range Day

San Antonio, TX – November 7, 2015 – Honored American Veterans Afield (HAVA) and the

San Antonio Police Department (SAPD) announced another very successful HAVA/SAPD National Family Day held last week at the SAPD Training Academy. In 8 annual family day events in San Antonio, HAVA has hosted over 1,400 disabled veterans and more than 2,800 including family members since its inception in 2008.

HAVA welcomed over 100 veterans and 250 total family members despite near-constant torrential rain and flooding. Disabled veterans and their families from all over South Texas braved the elements to participate in this flagship event that featured shooting exhibitions by Max Michel and Micah McMillan, who amazingly did his trademark shotgun exhibition in the wind and rain. “Gunny” (R. Lee Ermey) also entertained guests.

On the (thankfully covered) range, participants enjoyed shooting stages with various firearms chambered in .223, 9mm and .22LR. Youngsters ran through stages in SAPD’s “shoot house” with air soft guns and child care was provided for small children. As is usual practice at HAVA’s Family Days, all youth participants went home with a raffle prize. Lunch and dinner were provided along with backpacks filled with gifts and an adult raffle table with over $15,000 worth of firearms, optics and other outdoor gear.

“We were utterly shocked that 250 attendees and 80 volunteers actually showed up despite the miserable conditions,” said HAVA Chairman Tom Taylor. “All the rain didn’t dampen our guest’s spirits and the general sentiment was that only those with the tough minded mentality of our U.S. Military would come in such numbers on a day like that. These are military families who have faced enemies, family tragedy and disruption far worse than a rain storm – and who were not about to let some soggy conditions spoil a great day. It was, as always, our privilege to represent the shooting sports industry in “giving-back” to these deserving Americans, and the SAPD is a model host at their 700 acre training center.”

“Our training officers look forward to the HAVA event each year representing all of the sworn officers of the department,” said Capt. Jimmy Reyes of the SAPD Academy. “For us, it’s a unique form of community outreach as it serves those who have given so much, and to whom we all owe more than we can ever repay. Many of our men and women officers are ex-military who know too well the family and personal sacrifices of service life. Many thanks to the HAVA team for allowing us to share in this important effort.”
