Update: We did it! Through your petitions, phone calls and emails we have successfully blocked the Gun Dealer Licensing bill from being called for vote this session. However the fight isn’t over. Next legislative session begins in January 2018.
SB1657 Gun Dealer Licensing may soon be coming to the house floor for vote. It is important we stop this very bad bill now! The following petition will forward to every member of the Illinois House of Representatives via email.
SB1657 is a bad bill because gun dealers are already licensed and these additional mandates will put lawful guns store out of business and would increase the costs to purchase guns through increased government requirements, on the stores who are lucky enough to remain.
SB1657 is also a bad bill because Gun Dealer Licensing will do nothing to stop violence. Criminals are not buying guns from gun stores – instead are obtaining their guns through illegal means such as burglary and straw purchase. See also: Illinois Gun Dealer Licensing, the Rematch
